Birthstones by month

There are twelve birthstones, each for one month of the year. Wearing your birth month’s stone is said to help you harness the power of your birth month and channel your energy. If you’re not sure which stone is yours, here is a list of each birthstone by month.

Garnet is the birthstone for people born in January. It’s most commonly red in color, but you can also sometimes find green or an orange garnet. Garnet symbolizes peace and prosperity. It is known to bring happiness, wealth and health to the wearer.


The birthstone for February is Amethyst. Amethyst is of purplish color and that’s why it has been favored by the royals since ancient times. Amethyst is also a preferred gemstone to complement the diamond in your engagement ring. It symbolizes power and wealth.


If you were born in March, you should go with Aquamarine. This gemstone is cool blue in color. It was used by sailors as a good luck charm.


People born in April have Diamond as their birthstone. Diamonds, though clearly beautiful, can be pretty expensive, especially if you are evaluating them on the basis of the 4Cs (cut, clarity, color, and carat). Don’t worry, you can still get a less costly, lab-created version like the diamonds you find here.


Emerald is May’s birthstone. It symbolizes youth and intelligence. Commonly found in green color, Emerald was also the preferred gem for the royals. It is known to bring joy to the wearer.


People born in the month of June should go with pearls. Pearls are unique because they are the only gemstone created by animals. June-born people can also opt for color-changing gem, Alexandrite.


Ruby is the birthstone of July. Considered to be one of the four precious gems, this bright red gem symbolizes passion and energy. It is considered to bring success and love to the person who wears it.


August is associated with the gem, Peridot. Peridot comes in different shades of green- from lime to dark olive. This gem signifies beauty.


If you were born in September, you should opt for Sapphire. This stone signifies wisdom, intellect, and nobility. Sapphire comes in many different colors. The most commonly found color is royal blue, you can also find it in shades of yellow, purple and even white.


Opal is the stone for people born in October. Opal is a color-changing gem. You will find your opal showing different colors in different lights. In ancient times, Opal was considered a good luck gem, but modern folk culture considers it bad luck.


For the people of November, Citrine is the recommended gemstones. Citrine is known to be a healing gem. They are also known to improve mood. It offers warmth and energy to its wearer. Citrine signifies joy.


The turquoise stone is associated with the month of December. These blue-green gems signify friendship and are considered to be great Friendship Day gifts.

Birthstones are also great as gifts for birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions. Depending on the nature of your relationship, you can gift these stones are rings, pendants or earrings.
