Tips To Keep Your Skin Glowing This Winter

The cold weather of winter isn’t good for your skin. Low humidity paired with cold weather means that dry air is produced. It steals the moisture from the skin all day long and if you don’t take care, your skin can become so dry that it cracks and bleeds. When the winter wind gets too harsh, the problem only gets worse. When you go indoors, the heat takes even more moisture from the air, exacerbating the issue. If you take a hot bath or shower to warm up, you’re just going to make the problem even more serious. While extra moisture can help, there’s a lot more you should do to counteract the effects of winter to keep your skin looking smooth and youthful. Here are some top tips to improve your skin this winter.

Only Wash In Warm Water

Although taking a hot bath or shower feels good, especially during the winter, if you can try to use only lukewarm water instead. This will help to protect the oils from being stripped away from your skin.

Moisturize Straight Away

skin care

As soon as you’ve washed, your skin needs a lot of moisture. When you apply moisturizer to skin that is damp, it will seal the dampness into your skin straight away. Keep your favorite moisturizer in your bathroom and use it each time you wash. When you’re choosing the right moisturizer or bhmd dermal repair complex for you, make sure you avoid ones that have petroleum-based ingredients. These will only make your skin drier during the winter. Choose a formula with nourishing, natural ingredients and choose a formula that is oil-based, not water-based. Hydrating, natural ingredients such as jojoba, chamomile, and lavender are good choices to soothe itchy, dry skin.

Protect Yourself From Cold

Wear scarves and gloves to keep your skin well protected from the cold of snow, rain, and winds. However, remember to apply sunscreen too. The sun in the winter is equally damaged, so choose a titanium dioxide or zinc oxide formula and apply it to any areas exposed to daylight.

Humidity Is Important

Heating systems only dry the air in your home, so install a humidifier to restore the moisture in the air and stop your skin from getting too dry. Also, drink more water during the winter as this will help you to stay hydrated both inside and out.

Exfoliation Is Still Important

Sloughing off the dead skin cells from your face and hands is especially important during the winter. If you have too many dead skin cells, moisture won’t be able to get in. A microdermabrasion tool is the best way to have the perfect skin all winter long.

Avoid Irritants, Allergens And Toxins

If you’re suffering from psoriasis, dermatitis or eczema, avoiding the irritants and allergens which trigger flare ups is important. Your skin is more fragile during the winter, so avoid any fabrics such as wool which are irritating and any detergents that are chemical laden. Instead, opt for mild moisturizers and cleaners designed for use on sensitive skin.

Use The Right Cleanser

Cleaners are often very drying to skin, especially if you’re using a product which contains salicylic or glycolic acid. Try rotating with cleaners with more moisturizing ingredients and make sure to apply a moisturizer within 30 seconds of cleansing to avoid increased dryness. Also use hydrating toners as this will help you to seal in more moisture.

Use A Homemade Hydrating Mask

Apply homemade hydrating masks frequently as this will help to increase the moisture in your skin during the colder months. Make your own application with ingredients which are naturally moisturizing such as avocados, yogurt, honey, jojoba and olive oil, aloe, bananas and almond oil. Mix your chosen ingredients together to form a paste or cream then leave it on your skin for up to half a hour to ensure lasting hydration.

Although it isn’t easy to protect your skin from potential dryness during the cold of winter, if you follow these top tips, you’ll find that your face is much more hydrated during the colder months, feeling much smoother and softer when before it felt tight and painful. It’s never been so easy to look good, even in the winter.
